The shortlist: pick the tool for the job
- Instantly: best for teams that want cold email sending, warmup, and optional AI research in one platform.
- Smartlead: best for operators and agencies that need sending infrastructure and API-based campaign operations.
- lemlist: best for teams that combine personalized email with LinkedIn and calls.
- Apollo: best for sales teams that want contact data and email sequences in the same workspace.
- Clay: best for teams building custom research and enrichment before they send.
- Reply.io: best for teams choosing between conventional sequences and a packaged AI SDR, Jason.
- Hunter: best for small teams that want email finding, verification, and straightforward sequences.
- Coil: best for technical founders who want their own agent to build and run reviewed outbound workflows.
Our first picks: start with Instantly or Smartlead if sending is the bottleneck. Start with Apollo if you need data and sequences together. Choose Clay for custom enrichment, or Coil when your existing agent will operate the workflow. Choose lemlist for multichannel work, Reply.io for a packaged AI SDR, and Hunter for a focused find-verify-send workflow.
2027 planning edition. Last checked: November 2, 2026. These are current capabilities and prices for teams planning next year's stack, not predictions of 2027 releases or a promise that prices will stay fixed. We kept this article's original URL so readers and links reach the updated guide.
Coil publishes this comparison and is included as one option. The recommendations are our judgment based on official product and pricing pages, not a hands-on deliverability benchmark or a ranking of reply rates. We do not claim that any tool guarantees inbox placement or meetings. For the broader AI SDR and agent-tool landscape, read our AI outreach tools comparison.
Cold email tools at a glance
All dollar amounts below are USD. Annual rates require annual billing. A sending subscription is not the total cost: include domains, mailboxes, data, AI usage, and any channel add-ons. Prices and plan boundaries were checked on the linked official pages on November 2, 2026.

1. Instantly: best for an email-first outbound stack
AI and data: its credit product includes research and email-writing agents, enrichment, and lead search. Deliverability: Outreach includes connected email accounts and warmup. The strength is combining email operations with optional upstream research in one vendor.
Pricing: Growth Outreach is $47/month on monthly billing, with 1,000 uploaded contacts and 5,000 monthly emails. Growth Credits is a separate $47/month product. Buying the sender alone does not buy the full data and AI stack. See Instantly's official pricing and feature list, checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if your team works mainly through email and wants a dedicated sender. Skip it if your main need is a custom research workflow across providers. Budget the credit product and mailbox infrastructure before comparing its price with an all-in-one plan.
2. Smartlead: best for sending operations and agencies
AI and data: SmartAgents covers research and personalized writing; SmartProspect supplies prospect data. Deliverability: Smartlead offers warmup, sender rotation, and infrastructure options. Its strength is the operational sending layer and API/webhook access. See the official product overview.
Pricing: Base is listed at $39/month for 2,000 stored contacts and 6,000 sends. The Base prospect-data option is listed as a $59/month add-on. Client workspaces and infrastructure options also need a plan-level check. See Smartlead pricing, checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if you need a sender that fits an existing workflow or agency operation. Skip it if you expect the entry price to include every data, client-management, and infrastructure feature. Coil's configured SmartLead handoff makes these tools complementary.
3. lemlist: best for personalized multichannel outreach
AI and data: lemlist lists research, enrichment, and messaging agents alongside a lead database and email/phone finding. Deliverability: warmup and a deliverability hub are included in the Email feature list. Its strength is moving from email into LinkedIn and calling within the same product.
Pricing: Email lists $69/month, or $55/month billed yearly. Multichannel lists $109/month, or $87/month billed yearly, with a user-based selector. Data enrichment is an add-on. See lemlist pricing, checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if your sales motion needs several channels and tailored messages. Skip it if you only need basic email sequences: the multichannel tier and data add-ons add costs you do not need. Compare the Email plan's volume basis with Multichannel's seat basis before budgeting.
4. Apollo: best for contact data and sequences together
AI and data: Apollo combines a contact database, waterfall enrichment, an AI assistant, and sales sequences. Its strength is keeping prospecting and execution together. Deliverability: Apollo documents warmup, verification, bounce protection, and mailbox-health monitoring in its deliverability suite.
Pricing: the official pricing page lists Free, Basic, Professional, and Custom plans. Paid plans use seats and credits. All seats in an account must use the same plan. The public page did not expose a stable paid dollar rate in our check, so we do not quote one. Last checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if you want reps to find contacts and run sequences in one workspace. Skip it if you only need a sender for an existing list, or different feature tiers for different teammates. See Apollo alternatives.
5. Clay: best for custom research and enrichment
AI and data: Claygent researches people and companies; provider waterfalls combine data sources. Its strength is building a tailored preparation process for each campaign. Clay also offers a native email sequencer, so it is no longer accurate to describe it as enrichment-only.
Deliverability: evaluate the domain and sending setup for Clay's sequencer or the external sender you connect. Research quality alone does not establish inbox placement.
Pricing: Free includes 500 actions and 100 data credits per month. Paid plans combine action allowances and data-credit packages; the configurator changes the total. Use the official Clay pricing calculator for your volume. Last checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if custom enrichment is the work you need to solve. Skip it if you want a simple sender with little workflow design. Model both action use and data credits. Read Clay alternatives or Clay vs Apollo.
6. Reply.io: best for a packaged AI SDR option
AI and data: Reply offers conventional sequences plus Jason AI SDR, with contact search, personalization, and generated responses. Deliverability: the AI SDR package lists mailbox warmup and managed deliverability. Its strength is offering an AI SDR alongside the sales-engagement product, rather than requiring you to build that workflow.
Pricing: Jason AI SDR Starter starts at $500/month billed annually; the monthly-billing version starts at $800/month. Contact volumes change the price. Conventional Email Volume and Multichannel subscriptions are separate offers. See Reply pricing, checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if you want to evaluate a packaged agent that handles more of the conversation. Skip it if you only need inexpensive sequence sending. Check its copilot and autopilot settings against your approval needs before letting it answer prospects.
7. Hunter: best for a focused find-verify-send workflow
AI and data: Hunter offers an AI assistant for Discover and an AI writing assistant on paid outreach plans. Its email finder, verification, and sequences cover the core email workflow. Deliverability: auto-verification is included; Inbox Protection and managed email accounts are listed as add-ons.
Pricing: Free includes 50 monthly credits and one email account. Starter is $34/month with $408 billed yearly, 24,000 annual credits, and three connected email accounts. See Hunter pricing, checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if finding and checking email addresses matters more than a broad sales platform. Skip it if your plan needs many sending accounts at the entry price. Count mailbox slots, credit use, and protection add-ons in the full cost.
8. Coil: best for founders who already work with an agent
AI and data: connect a supported agent to Coil's API and JSON CLI. The agent can build reusable recipes around supported sources, enrichment, and OpenRouter AI qualification steps. Saved outputs and run state make the work inspectable. Sales Navigator scraping uses Apify; Coil is not a replacement for every contact database.
Deliverability: Coil has no first-party email sender or inbox-placement service. A configured SmartLead handoff or published webhook sends approved data to an external system. That system owns email delivery and campaign performance.
Pricing: Coil is $0 during open beta. Provider costs remain separate, and free beta pricing is not a promise of free service throughout 2027. See Coil pricing, checked November 2, 2026.
Pick it if you want your own agent to build and run reviewed workflows. Skip it if you want a turnkey sender or a packaged autonomous SDR. Human admins manage credentials and publish recipes; agent keys have member permissions. General ChatGPT/Claude chat integrations and MCP are not shipped Coil surfaces. Start with the agent API and recipes.
How to choose your 2027 stack
First, name the missing job. A sender moves messages. A data tool finds contacts. An AI SDR packages more of the sales process. A workflow tool connects the preparation steps. Buy against the bottleneck you have, not the widest feature list.
Second, compare the same workload. Specify your users, active contacts, messages, mailboxes, and enrichment runs. Ask each vendor for the price of that workload, including annual commitments and add-ons. An annual per-seat rate cannot be compared directly with a monthly workspace rate.
Third, test a small, reviewed campaign. Inspect contact fit, source evidence, draft accuracy, suppression handling, and reply ownership. Track bounces and qualified replies. Warmup and AI copy do not compensate for an irrelevant list or a poor offer. This guide does not rank deliverability because we have not run a controlled sending test across these vendors.

FAQ
What is the best AI cold email tool for 2027?
Choose Instantly or Smartlead for dedicated email sending, Apollo for data plus sequences, lemlist for multichannel outreach, Clay for custom enrichment, Reply.io for a packaged AI SDR, Hunter for email finding and verification, or Coil for workflows operated by your own agent. The right choice depends on which part of outbound you need to improve.
Are these confirmed 2027 prices and features?
No. This is a 2027 planning guide checked on November 2, 2026. The prices and features describe the official pages available on that date. Confirm the selected plan and billing term before you buy; we do not predict future releases or price changes.
Which tool has the best deliverability?
We do not name a winner because we have not run a controlled inbox-placement test. Compare authentication, verification, sending controls, monitoring, and suppression handling. Test with your own audience and mailbox setup before increasing volume.
Can Coil send cold email by itself?
No. Coil provides agent-operated workflows, supported sources, recipes, and saved run results. A configured SmartLead handoff or published webhook passes data to an external system. The sending provider owns delivery and campaign performance, and provider charges are separate from Coil's free beta.
How is an AI SDR different from a cold email tool?
A cold email tool focuses on sequences, mailboxes, and sending operations. An AI SDR adds more of the research, writing, and response workflow. The label does not tell you which actions need human approval. Check those controls in the specific product and plan.
